Interim Report: First Month Reflections
- What does it take to be a great Library Learning Commons assistant? What are your strengths? Talk about the things you do well.
- To be a great library learning commons assistant, one must be diligent and willing to improve upon their own weaknesses. My strengths are that whenever i do something, I’ll generally do it to the best of my abilities. If someone comes to the library asking for help about a book or library related topic, I try my best to help with the knowledge that I have.
- What are your weaknesses in this class and why? How can you improve?
- I have a few weaknesses. Sometimes I can be lazy and get off task, and things won’t get done very quickly but it always gets done. It usually comes down to my motivation. Many times if I don’t want to do something, it gets left undone for a while, whereas other times if I do have the motivation, things are done almost immediately.
- What have you enjoyed doing? What have you found difficult/frustrating?What have you learned this far?
- I’ve enjoyed the peace and serenity when there aren’t classes around. It lets me get some calm of mind in the morning and it allows me time if I haven’t fully completed my homework. There hasn’t been much difficulty in the course. Checking books in and out has been pretty simple and keeping up to date with blog posts isn’t that hard either. I’ve learned about lots of different work ethics that I should uphold to a certain standard when working at the main library desk.
- What are some ideas you have for making our Library Learning Commons even better? Provide at least three and explain them fully. Post to your blog.
- Idea one:
- Have a certain area reserved for books that people want to book or keep on hold. It can be cluttered around the main desk area when there is a surge of books. Something akin to what they have at the Surrey public libraries.
- Idea two:
- Perhaps have a sign on the outside of the door somewhere so that people will know who’s occupying the library at what time/block in the day. Maybe also include who has booked any of the technology. It saves students and teachers a lot of time not having to come into the library and open up the booking book to check.
- Idea three:
Bring back bean bags. The bean bags were relaxing and allowed for people who couldn’t go back home to relax on something soft. It’s good for people who just want to rest so that they don’t take up additional table space when they don’t need to.
